Can you trim a hedgehogs quills?

Hedgehogs naturally shed and groom their quills, and can usually take care of themselves. In normal circumstances their quills should not need trimmed. This should only be attempted by an experienced veterinarian because there is considerable risk for injuring the hedgehog.
